No one can outrun death.

Edith Cooper was only a child when she was in an accident that claimed her mother's life, but left her unharmed. Ten years later, Death seems to be haunting her every step as Edith is plagued by a strange series of near-misses. Enter the mysterious, yet familiar, stranger, who somehow manages to show up at just the right moment each time Edith finds herself in trouble.

First of all let me say that for the most part I really enjoyed the book. The story of Edith was a fine little story. It was interesting to read about all her "near misses".

However, I could have done without the love story part. It was too ridiculous for me. It made me think about a couple of friends in junior high school who could talk about nothing but boys. Too over the top for me.

Then again, Edith WAS a teenage girl. But still.... It was just too bizarre to be believable that her love interest was who he was. I mean - really? Nah. Too much for me. But without that aspect it would have been terrific.

Death Comes Calling eBook Kristine Adler Gemma Stephens Reviews

I wasn't expecting much, but I figured, why not? It only took a couple pages for me to be hooked. The writing was especially beautifull! Adler writes it so that we are right beside Edith. I was pleasantly surprised, and am eager for more of her work.
Great book, never new what was around the corner. Can not wait for the next book in the series....very mysterious.
I remember the old adage that 'you get what you pay for.' Well, I'm very happy to say that is wrong on this case. The author, Kristine Adler, gives so much more than I expected! I love the characters. They are well rounded, fleshed out, so to speak! I honestly cared for them on a deep emotional level, and my heart ached for them. This is one of the best "reaper" sub-genre of paranormal fiction. Thank you for redefining an old adage for me, because in this case, I got a compelling and entertaining read for free!
